Ahead of the Football Survivor and Big5 2024/25 season, the tipsters have been mining the data once again:

The Mailman says…

  • My pick: Arsenal won the bragging rights in the North London derby as they beat Spurs at home to move within four points of league leaders Liverpool. They host Aston Villa and their former manager Unai Emery at the Emirates on Saturday. Villa had been enjoying a decent run on the road against London sides having lost just one of their first 13 Premier League away games against teams in the capital, but have lost their last two London fixtures by an aggregate score of 7-1. They may struggle against the Gunners this weekend, who are undefeated in their last 10 games at home this season!
  • Potential pick: Fulham were unbeaten in their previous eight Premier League games until they lost to West Ham mid-week. They take on Leicester at the weekend who they have beaten in their previous three meetings and in four of their five most recent clashes. It does not look good for Leicester who remain in 19th place, having earned just four points from a possible twenty-four since Van Nistelrooy took charge. The Foxes have lost six Premier League games in a row, conceding at least two goals in each of these games, and have failed to score in four of them.
  • Risky pick: Everton lost 1-0 to Aston Villa with David Moyes returning to his old club to try and steer them away from the relegation zone. He will have a tough task on his hands as the Toffees failed again to get on the score sheet and have lost three in a row without finding the back of the net. Everton have scored just 25 times in 20 league games, with only bottom-of-the-table Southampton scoring less and their star striker Calvert-Lewin is on a run of 15 appearances without a goal. They face Spurs this weekend and have only beaten them once in their previous 24 league games against them!

The Teacher says…

  • My pick: Crystal Palace comfortably beat Leicester 2-0 in their last league outing and could potentially climb a few places in the table with a win against West Ham at the weekend. Palace are unbeaten in their last five Premier League away games against the Hammers and only at Spurs have they had a longer run without defeat on the road in their Premier League history. The Eagles are in great form in general on the road this season with a current six-match unbeaten run away from home with three wins and three draws.
  • Potential pick: Brighton will be confident heading into Sunday’s game at Old Trafford as the Seagulls ended their run of four consecutive draws to beat Ipswich 2-0 on Thursday night. Brighton have won seven of their fifteen Premier League matches with their opponents Manchester United, and have the highest win rate against them of any side in the history of the league. United looked to be heading for a fourth consecutive home defeat against Southampton in their previous game, before turning it around in the last ten minutes. Brighton will be looking for a repeat of their previous away game at United when they ended up 3-1 winners.
  • Risky pick: “Tottenham have lost six of their last ten games, were beaten by their North London rivals last time out, and are now closer to the relegation places than the top four in the league. Spurs have lost 11 games in the Premier League this season, and the only teams that have lost more are fellow strugglers Wolves, Leicester and Southampton. They take on the Toffees on Sunday, and it could be a good idea to bet on it being all square between the two sides as this tie at Goodison Park is the most drawn specific fixture in Premier League history, with 17 of the 32 meetings ending level!

Incognito Pro says…

  • My pick: Fulham lost 3-2 to West Ham on Tuesday night, but I do expect them to bounce back as they take on 19th-placed Leicester at the weekend. The Cottagers have won six of their eleven Premier League games against Leicester, drawing two of those and only losing twice. Alex Iwobi scored twice mid-week for Fulham and he will fancy his chances against the Foxes as he has scored in his last two league appearances against them, including the winner in this season’s reverse fixture back in August. Iwobi has also either scored or assisted a goal in each of his last three games at the King Power Stadium.
  • Potential pick: Arsenal returned to winning ways with their 2-1 win at home over rivals Tottenham after losing in both their recent EFL and FA Cup fixtures to Newcastle and Manchester United. The Gunners are unbeaten in their previous 13 Premier League home ties since they lost to Aston Villa 2-0 towards the end of last season, and will be looking for revenge as they host the Villans on Saturday. The last time Arsenal had a longer winning streak at home was under current Villa boss Unai Emery with 16 league wins in a row at the Emirates, and I expect them to get closer to this record with another win at the weekend.
  • Risky pick: West Ham were 3-2 victors against Fulham in Graham Potter’s first game in charge as he will be hoping to become just the third manager to win their first two league games for the Hammers. However, the two goals conceded will be a concern as this win was off the back of two Premier League losses in a row where West Ham conceded nine times. They have the fourth-worst defensive record in the league and may suffer at the hands of Palace on Saturday who beat Leicester 2-0 away and are undefeated in four games in the league. Sarr has been involved in five goals in his last six Premier League appearances for the Eagles and will be a real threat for West Ham to contend with.

Good luck!
