Ahead of the Football Survivor and Big5 2024/25 season, the tipsters have been mining the data once again:

The Mailman says…

  • My pick: Liverpool are in phenomenal form at the moment having just beaten the European champions Real Madrid, and the English champions Manchester City both 2-0 in the space of a week! Liverpool are now 9 points ahead of their nearest rivals Arsenal and will be full of confidence going into their game against Newcastle on Wednesday night. The Magpies in contrast have had a poor end to November, after starting the month with two wins, they have lost to West Ham at home and drew with Palace 1-1 last time out. Newcastle have a terrible record against Liverpool, failing to beat the Reds in their previous 15 meetings, drawing 4 and losing 11!
  • Potential pick: Ipswich lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest at the weekend, but this was off the back of a three-game undefeated streak where they drew with both Leicester and United and impressively won 2-1 away at Tottenham. The Tractor Boys take on Crystal Palace on Tuesday and the last time the two sides faced each other in the league was back in 2013 when Ipswich won 3-0 at Portman Road. Palace have failed to win on the road this season while Ipswich have not lost in their last four top-flight home games against London clubs!
  • Risky pick: Everton were beaten convincingly 4-0 by United on Sunday and there are talks of Sean Dyche being the next Premier League manager to lose their job after his side has failed to win in their last five games. Perhaps more worrying for Everton is their lack of goals as they have not been able to find the back of the net since the end of October, making them the joint lowest-scoring team in the league with Southampton. They host Wolves on Wednesday evening and this fixture last year saw the Toffees lose 1-0 and I would not be surprised if we saw the same result this time around.

The Teacher says…

  • My pick: Arsenal were dominant in a whirlwind of a start where all seven of the goals in their 5-2 thumping of West Ham were scored in the first half on Saturday. The Gunners moved into second place having won each of their three games since the international break by at least three goals and they are unbeaten in their last twelve games at the Emirates, winning ten of these fixtures. They host Manchester United on Wednesday night, and if they win it will be the first time in their history that Arsenal have beaten United four consecutive times in the league!
  • Potential pick: Wolves were out-played in their 4-2 loss at home to Bournemouth in their last Premier League game, but before this weekend they had won two in a row and were unbeaten in four games. They travel to Everton on Wednesday and should be buoyed by their last away performance where they hammered Fulham 4-1. Wolves are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Everton, winning five of those and the Toffees have not beaten them since 2021. Although Wolves have conceded the most goals this season, they can take confidence in the fact that their opponents Everton have failed to get on the score sheet in their last four games!
  • Risky pick: Leicester’s new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy watched from the stands as his new side lost 4-1 away to Brentford at the weekend and he will have realised that he has his work cut out for him as the Foxes have now lost three in a row in the league and five of their last six games in all competitions. Leicester have also just won one of their home games this season and host West Ham midweek at the King Power Stadium. They have won the previous two encounters with the Hammers but lost three of the last five league meetings between the two sides. Leicester sit just above the relegation zone with ten points, which is one less than they had at this stage of the season when they were last in the Premier League which resulted in them being relegated in 2023.

Incognito Pro says…

  • My pick: Liverpool are flying high at the top of the table after a comfortable 2-0 win over their title rivals City at the weekend, and are now 9 points above Arsenal in second place. The previous time any team at the top of the Premier League had a larger points difference over second place at this stage in the season, was back in 1993 when Manchester United led with 11 points. The Reds face Newcastle this week who were winning at Selhurst Park until they conceded in the 94th minute and drew with Crystal Palace. The Magpies may struggle to score on Wednesday against this Liverpool side who have the most clean sheets with 7 and have only conceded 8 goals in total so far this season.
  • Potential pick: West Ham will need to bounce back from their last Premier League game where they were hammered 5-2 at home by their London rivals Arsenal. However, their previous away outing in the league was an impressive 2-0 win at St. James’ Park and so the Hammers will be looking to replicate that form when they travel to Leicester on Wednesday night. West Ham are undefeated in each of their past 5 mid-week Premier League outings including victories at both Spurs and Arsenal and will fancy their chances against a struggling Leicester side that was convincingly beaten 4-1 by Brentford in their last league outing.
  • Risky pick: Manchester United looked great in their 4-0 demolition of Everton at Old Trafford, with Rashford looking back on form but they have been so inconsistent of late that they are a risky pick on Wednesday especially as they face title challengers Arsenal at the Emirates. The Red Devils have a poor away record this season, with their only win on the road coming against Southampton and United have lost 7 of the last 9 away trips against the Gunners, with Arsenal also winning the last 3 encounters. It could be a repeat from this game last year which was a 3-1 win for Arsenal with both Declan Rice equalising and Jesus bagging the winner in added time!

Good luck!
