Ahead of the Football Survivor and Big5 2024/25 season, the tipsters have been mining the data once again:
The Mailman says…
- My pick: “Aston Villa’s dreams of qualifying for the Champions League in back-to-back seasons are very much still alive, as they sit in sixth place level on points with both Chelsea and Newcastle, and are only two points behind third placed City. The Villans have hit some vital form going into the final day of the season as their 2-0 win over Spurs last time out was their third win on the trot and their ninth win from eleven Premier League games, one fewer than their opponents on Sunday Manchester United’s ten wins all season!“
- Potential pick: “Chelsea have a massive final game on Sunday as they travel to Nottingham Forest with just a single point separating the two sides as they battle it out for Champions League qualification. Chelsea appear to be the more in-form team winning six from their last seven games in all competitions, while Forest although beating West Ham in their last match have only two wins from seven and have not won in four games at home in all contests. Forest have only beaten Chelsea once in their last seven league encounters, and this fixture last season was a 3-2 victory for the Blues.“
- Risky pick: “Manchester City seem to have recovered from their FA Cup final upset against Crystal Palace with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday night, but they could still be a risky pick going into the last game of the season. City travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham who impressed in their last game with a 3-2 win to end Brentford’s hot streak in the league despite trailing at half time. Fulham are winless in nineteen Premier League meetings with Man City, but they could be inspired by their fellow Londoners Palace’s efforts in the cup and cause another upset for Pep Guardiola.“
The Teacher says…
- My pick: “Brighton impressed with their 3-2 win over the champions Liverpool and the South-Coast side are now undefeated in four games, with three wins and a draw against fourth-placed Newcastle. The Seagulls will be looking to make it consecutive wins against Tottenham this season on Sunday for the first time in their club history as they won the reverse fixture 3-2. Brighton will fancy their chances against this Spurs defence as they have scored at least twice in ten of their last thirteen Premier League games.“
- Potential pick: “Liverpool have taken their foot off the gas slightly since winning the title and have not won in their last three games, although it should be noted that their two losses were away from home. The Reds will be hoping to change that and finish their amazing season in style at Anfield as they take on Crystal Palace on Sunday. Liverpool have not lost at home on the final day of the season since the eighties, and thirteen out of the last fourteen occasions that Premier League winners have finished the season at home it has resulted in a victory for the champions!“
- Risky pick: “Manchester United head into the final Premier League game of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday after a lacklustre defeat in the Europa League final to add to their worst season since the 1973-74 relegation campaign. United’s loss to Chelsea in their last league match was their third defeat in a row in the competition, and they are without a win from their previous eight league games with six of those being losses. The Red Devils have gone an entire season without winning back-to-back games in the league, losing eighteen matches in total.“
Incognito Pro says…
- My pick: “Premier League champions Liverpool take on FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, and the Reds will be hoping to crown off their wonderful season with a winning performance for their home fans. Mo Salah has been quiet recently but the Egyptian star will be gunning for another record this weekend as he has 46 goal involvements this season which is just one short of the all-time Premier League seasonal record of 47, jointly held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer!“
- Potential pick: “Aston Villa travel to Old Trafford on Sunday with the aim of beating Manchester United for the first time in their last six encounters in all competitions, and hopefully securing a Champions League spot for next season. A win for this in-form Villa side would be their twentieth this season and the first time they have secured 20+ points in consecutive top-flight campaigns since 1931! Their opponents United will still be reeling from their Europa League final loss in Bilbao on Wednesday night, and have little to play for on Sunday afternoon apart from pride.“
- Risky pick: “Tottenham will still be buzzing from winning their first trophy in seventeen years on Wednesday night, but there is no escaping from their poor performance in the Premier League this season. Spurs have only managed to pick up a single point from their last six league games and have lost twenty-one games this season, the most in a campaign since 1977. If Tottenham lose this game on Sunday, it will be the first time in the history of the top league a side has lost twenty-two games in a thirty-eight game season and not been relegated!“
Good luck!
