Ahead of the Football Survivor and Big5 2024/25 season, the tipsters have been mining the data once again:
The Mailman says…
- My pick: “Brighton have been on fire since their 7-0 humbling at the hands of Nottingham Forest, winning six games in a row to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals and another victory against Manchester City would make them contenders for the coveted fourth place Champions League spot. Brighton are currently enjoying the longest ongoing winning run in the Premier League of any side with four games without defeat, and have a decent record on the road this season, having only lost once in the previous nine away trips in all competitions!“
- Potential pick: “West Ham did lose 1-0 to Newcastle at home in their previous league game and travel to Goodison Park to take on an improved Everton side this weekend. However the Hammers have had some impressive wins on the road this season against Arsenal, Palace and Newcastle and the last time they played Everton in Liverpool they ended up 3-1 winners. West Ham have won four of their last six Premier League encounters at Goodison Park and Everton boss David Moyes has never beaten West Ham’s Graham Potter in the seven occasions the two managers have faced each other!“
- Risky pick: “Southampton lost to league leaders Liverpool last weekend and could still end up with the unwanted record of the lowest ever Premier League points total and face another difficult fixture on Saturday when they host Wolves. Southampton are two points below the lowest points tally which was recorded by Derby in 2008 when they only earned eleven points that season. Southampton have lost each of their last eight home league games where they have conceded twenty-nine times and only managed to score five goals.“
The Teacher says…
- My pick: “Wolves are in seventeenth place in the league but are fourteen points clear of their opponents Southampton this weekend, and will be firm favourites to increase this gap even further. Wolves are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League games against the Saints and have won the previous six encounters between the two sides including the reverse fixture which they won 2-0. Since Southampton beat Ipswich away from home, they have lost four league games in a row where they conceded fourteen goals and only managed to score twice!“
- Potential pick: “Arsenal were frustrated in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United in their last league game, and will be looking for their first Premier League win in four games when they host London rivals Chelsea on Sunday. The Gunners have only lost once at home this season and will be looking for a repeat performance of the last time the two sides played each other at the Emirates when Arsenal thumped the Blues 5-0. Arsenal are undefeated in their last six league games against Chelsea and have won six of the previous nine league encounters.“
- Risky pick: “Manchester City were beaten 1-0 in their last league game at the hands of Nottingham Forest, and also lost without finding the back of the net in their most recent home defeat to Liverpool. City host Brighton this weekend and defeat would be their tenth this season and the most the Citizens have suffered in a single Premier League campaign under Pep Guardiola. Manchester City are in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time since 2010, and could potentially drop down to sixth place on Saturday if they suffer another loss.“
Incognito Pro says…
- My pick: “Brighton beat Fulham 2-1 with a stoppage-time penalty in their last league outing which moved them to just one point behind their opponents on Saturday Manchester City who are above them in fifth place. The Seagulls have lost just twice in their past 15 games across all competitions, and have won four consecutive top-flight matches for the first time since 1981. Brighton came from behind to win the reverse fixture 2-1 back in November last year and are looking good to achieve their first ever league double over Manchester City!“
- Potential pick: “Tottenham showed they still have some fight in them coming back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Bournemouth in their last Premier League appearance, while their upcoming opponents Fulham lost 2-1 to Brighton. It has not been all bad for Spurs who have won their last two league games on the road, and have managed to accumulate ten points in their last five games. While Fulham, having lost just four games in their first twenty this season, have now lost four of their last eight and this could be a good time for Tottenham to face them!“
- Risky pick: “Chelsea were 1-0 winners in a scrappy match against a struggling Leicester team last week, and although the Blues have won two in a row, they have been against the bottom two sides. Worryingly for Chelsea their star-man Cole Palmer missed his first penalty last week for the club and he has failed to score or assist in the Blues’ last eight matches. I feel Chelsea may struggle when they travel to Arsenal on Sunday as they have lost each of their last three away games and the previous two matches at the Emirates, including the 5-0 loss there last season.“
Good luck!
